The Dark Side of Social Media Marketing – Minichat with BJ Mendelson

Today, many marketers are quick to praise social media for its ability to quickly gain and engage with an audience. Although this might not be wrong, social media marketing is still far from the Eden that marketers claim it to be. and few speak of its pitfalls.

We sat down with BJ Mendelson for a mini-chat on just that. BJ, is an American comedian, author and speaker who is author of the book, Social Media Is Bullshit. BJ is also an advocate for breast cancer awareness and the family support program ‘Wounded Warriors Family Support’.

In college, he was featured on the websites: boing boing, fark, and college humor for his ‘Universal Break up Card’. Since then he has worked on marketing efforts for overstock.com, Dunkin Donuts, Ford, and Sears.

His Twitter account was placed on the ‘Twitter Suggested User List’ in February 2009 and now has over 740 thousand followers. He has written for the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and Smart Money Magazine.

Through our interview, BJ dispels a few of the myths that so many believe when marketing on social networks. Get ready for a very informative discussion where BJ shines light on the dark side of social media. We ask him:
